RICHARD AZAR
1921-2009
The board, staff and volunteers of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce extend condolences to the family of Richard N. Azar, who served as Board Chair during 1974-1975.
He will best be remembered for being the founder of the Amigo Airsho, but his business ventures were many and varied, in El Paso and in Ciudad Juarez. He established the first Coors Distributorship in the State of Texas (Dickshire Coors) and, with his wife Suzy, opened an aviation school in Santa Teresa. In partnership with the Amigo Airsho, Dick and Suzy developed a student outreach program, “Cleared for Take-off,” for 5 El Paso schools. The program motivates youth in aviation related careers and encourages them to broaden their knowledge in the math and science fields. He was instrumental in establishing The Armed Services YMCA to support Fort Bliss military personnel. His support for and, involvement in, numerous local organizations speaks to his love and passion for El Paso. . His legacy will serve as the gold standard for community service to all El Pasoans. |
