Solving Barriers to Employment

SUBSIDIZED TRAINING

CUSTOMIZED TRAINING AGREEMENT (CTA)
Customized Training is occupational training conducted primarily in a class room setting and designed for a specific employer or consortium of employers with a commitment by those same employers to hire the trainees upon successful completion of the program.

This training further benefits an employer by tailoring a training program to the specific needs of the employer. A training provider may be used to conduct training pursuant to the employer specified and approved curriculum. The employer or training provider is reimbursed 100% of the training cost.
ON - THE - JOB TRAINING (OJT)
On-the-Job training is described as an employer providing occupational training in the private or public sector to qualified participants. The training focuses on providing the individual with the knowledge or skills essential to perform the full and adequate duties of the job.

Hours are determined based on the training plan provided by the employer and the participant's prior work experience and skill level. During the training period, the employer is reimbursed 50% of the hourly wage rate up to 500 hours of training. This basically covers the extraordinary costs of providing hands on training and increased supervision related to the training.
Eligibility
Eligible Participant
Eligible participants are those who, as determined by the Local Workforce Development Board (LWDB), have not been earning a self-sufficient wage. Only those participants who have been assessed and for whom OJT or CTA has been determined as an appropriate activity in the participant's Individual Service Strategy may be referred to an employer for participation in OJT or CTA.

Eligible Employer
Eligibility of both OJT and CTA is determined based on the hiring procedures and minimal qualifications of the position being considered for training. Eligible employers must commit to hiring and retaining participants who successfully complete their training programs.
