APPOINTMENT
 
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano announced the formation of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) Southwest Border Task Force, a diverse group of national security experts charged with examining the Department’s efforts along the U.S.-Mexico border and providing advice and recommendations directly to the Secretary. Richard Dayoub and our Mayor John Cook are among the experts announced.

CHAIR-ELECT ATTEND
ARMY WAR COLLEGE
Gus Rodriguez and Richard Dayoub were invited to attend the 55th Annual National Security Seminar, hosted by the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The week long program coincides with graduation week for the 336 students participating in the year long masters program in strategic studies.

ARMS Committee Visits
White Sands Missle Range/Fort Bliss
The Armed Forces Division of the Greater Chamber had their March meeting at Fort Bliss followed by an orientation tour of WSMR.
Approximately 34 members attended the Video Teleconference at Fort Bliss from Kabul, Afghanistan, with Brig General Anthony R. Ierardi, Deputy Commanding General, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan.

State of the City Address

Mayor Cook addressed over 725 guests that attended the Greater Chamber State of the City Address on 23 April. The Mayor spoke of the successes of the past year and what we could expect in the future from the City government. The Mayor was presented with the official key to the Franklin Mountain Star at the end of the address.
