The Greater El Paso Chamber
of Commerce built and maintains Source El Paso for the purpose of developing
and promoting business-to-business e-commerce in the Paso del Norte region.
Source El Paso is an interactive database of all enterprises registered with
the state of Texas in El Paso County, as well as numerous firms in Southern
NM and Juarez, Mexico. It is designed primarily as a tool for buyers within
large and small companies to locate specific types of suppliers they need. It
is also used by potential customers to gain knowledge about and locate companies
in the region.
While all enterprises are
listed in Source El Paso, buyers and customers will more easily locate those
who have completed detailed “business profiles." Within the business
profile, you have the ability to register a unique 500-character description
of your business. Every word in this unique description, along with all other
fields in your profile, are used by the Source El Paso search engine to seek
out the companies capable of providing the products or services as listed in
the “Search” function. As an example, if you owned a plastic widget
company, any word in your profile that was typed in the “Search”
function would immediately call up your business: “widgets”, “plastic”,
or any description you give to your company.
These business profiles
also allow your business to modify its database record at any time. And that’s
a benefit to you because it means mid-year changes in addresses or telephone
numbers are no longer a problem -- you can change them immediately.

- Q. How
much attention does the website get?
A. More than 500,000 hits per month.
- Q. What is a
hit?
A. A common Internet measurement of Web traffic that shows how many
times the elpaso.org page is “clicked” on by an Internet user.
Another common measurement is “page views”. Our site now gets
45,000 views per month, and is steadily climbing.
- Q. What is a
“Business Profile”?
A. A unique description of your business that best describes your
company and its possible competitive advantages. A profile can be up to 500
characters, using words and phrases that people might use to search for your
company on the Internet.
- Q. What is an
“SIC” code?
A. A standardized business code used to classify companies by the
type of services they offer or manufacturing they perform.
- Q. How will my
company appear once a “search” is performed and a listing of
companies come up on the page?
A. The listing of companies appears in alphabetical order, with Chamber
members listed first. Chamber members will also have a star in front of their
name.

cost to run a Profile and how much additional cost to join the
Greater Chamber?
A. The Profile is $264 per year
with a one-time setup charge of $30. The additional cost to
become a Chamber member is only $36.
- Q. Who uses elpaso.org?
A. Research shows us that the two primary users are local
businesses and individuals, and companies outside El Paso. These users are
prompted by Chamber activity and other means, to find suppliers in El Paso/Juárez
region.
- Q. How quickly
can my profile be online?
A. Depending on your choice of payment, as quickly as tomorrow.

your profile.
- Q. Is elpaso.org
a Greater Chamber project?
A. Yes it is. The Chamber, as a not-for-profit organization,
has used grants from federal and state organizations to get this program funded.

do not have a web site?
A. It is not necessary to have a web site to participate
in elpaso.org. But, it is helpful, assisting people in finding your business.
